Every year, children in the U.S. age 14 and under are invited to enter the Pier 1/UNICEF Greeting Card Contest. Children submit their drawings based on an annual theme, and the winning card is reproduced as an official UNICEF greeting card.
This year's contest theme was "Making Spirits Bright." Among the thousands of creative drawings submitted, ten-year-old Wesley Kao, of Roseville, California, emerged as the winner.
The Kao family is not new to this contest. One of last year’s winners was Wesley’s older sister Josephine.
Wesley’s drawing of a cheerful, colorfully adorned row of snowmen will be sold exclusively at Pier 1 Imports stores. Funds from the sale of the cards will support UNICEF’s lifesaving programs.
Pier 1 began selling UNICEF greeting cards in 1985. The greeting card contest was launched in 1992 as a way to help raise awareness among U.S. school children about UNICEF's important work around the world.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from all UNICEF cards sold in Pier 1 Imports stores nationwide are donated to UNICEF.
